Lock Down day 10

Kia ora bloggers,

Today its the 10th day in lock down and I've been getting quite bored and I would most definitely prefer to go to school rather than doing distance learning.

If you have seen my last blog you would know that I made a painting of this mushroom character and I said I would make a set so a couple days ago I made a second painting of the mushroom and this one seemed easier to make as I had already made one the same just a different colour.

In my opinion I like this one more than the first one because I just think it looks a lot neater and I just like the colour.

Heres my second painting.

Do you prefer this one over the other? what could I change for the next one? tell me in the comments below!

Lockdown

 Kia ora bloggers,

This week we have been in lock down and its only been two days but I've been finding it quite boring so on Wednesday I decided to do a painting of this little mushroom character from a game I play and I think it turned out really good even though I did struggle to cover up the red on his head with white to make the circles as I had to do like 5 coats of it but I managed to get it finished and I really like it. Today i'm going to make more of them to be like a set as there are three different colours of him.

Heres my painting.

Minecraft watershed

Kia ora bloggers, For our inquiry we made a watershed in minecraft

For our create task we had to include labels and signs to show each step of the water cycle, we also had to add the definitions for each step of the water cycle which were evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Then we had to make a local body of water as a catchment area and explain how its a catchment area.

This is my minecraft catchment area.

Steam challenge

 Kia ora bloggers,

today we had to do a Steam challenge.

for the create task we had to make a table that would hold the weight of one book and if it did we would try two books and so on. We could only use a 10 pieces of news paper and 1m of tape to make our table. For my teams design we tried to make 5 poles of news paper and one or two pieces on top to hold the book but it didn't work that well as we couldn't get the 5th pole to go underneath but it wouldn't stay so we left it out but we could tell that our table wouldn't be able to hold the weight so we tipped it upside down and we thought it could hold the books but it only held one.

 Kia ora bloggers,

For the last couple of weeks we have been have been doing our Matariki ink art.

We started by drawing a design on a draft copy, then we went on to a piece of foam and once you've done that you can pick the ink colours you want and paint over your piece of foam and apply it onto a piece of A4 paper, then we had to cut it out, then we trace an outline of a cardboard frame for our frame, then we had to stick our art onto the back of our frame and then we had to sign it with our initials or signature. Here is a picture of my art. It might look brown and blue but its purple and blue.

Robot

Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have created our own robot on google draw.

We made a robot on google draw with a lot of different angles and once we have done that we then get it printed so we can measure the angles on it but we can't measure right or straight angles because there easy to measure so we can only measure acute angles (less than 90°), Obtuse angles (more than 90° but less than 180°) and reflex angles (more than 180° but less than 360°).

Can you guess what type of angles there are on mine?

  Kia ora bloggers,

today before tech we played this fun game where we had to work together in a group and make a creation for a egg that we have to drop on concrete from the high up.

The problem was:  Some people are injured at the bottom of a sheer rock face. They need medicine, some of which is fragile and has to be packaged so that it will not break.  You do not have a cord to lower it gently; it will have to be dropped.  You have some common materials handy to use.  There is no wind blowing on this occasion. So we got into a group of five and we got some equipment to use to make a creation for a egg to go in so if we were to drop it of the top of the stairs in the maker space it hopefully wouldn't crack, Here is the equipment we got to use: 3 sheets of A4 photocopy paper, A plastic bag, 1m of string, 1 sheet of A5 thin card, Cellotape, Scissors and Paper to sketch design on. After we got our equipment we had 25 minutes to discuss and make our creation, Heres some photos of us making our product:

 Kia ora bloggers,

For maths today we are still learning about angles.

We have learnt about the reflex angle that is always more than 180° but less than 360°,

For our create task we had to write our first name using a ruler then we had to measure at least one of each angle like an acute, Obtuse, Right angle, Straight angle and a reflex angle, Here is an example of mine.

 Kia ora bloggers,

For literacy over the past week we have been learning about birds of NZ and adaptation.

We had to read through an article and answer some questions about adaptation. Then we had four different types of birds and a article to read about them, The different types of birds were Kiwi, Takahe, Kakapo and the Moa we had to choose two different birds to read about i picked the Kiwi and Moa.

For our create task we made a google drawing and put all the facts we found about the birds and their similarities, Here is an example of mine.

 Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles.

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°).  We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles.  We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name, here is an a example of mine.

The Holocaust

Hello, This term in literacy we have been creating a site about the Holocaust, and to help us we are reading a book called Once its about a boy called Felix in an orphanage looking for his parents but he didn't know that his parents weren't coming back for him as they were most likely in a concentration camp or they are dead and he always made up stories using his imagination trying to make him happy. If you want to take a look at my site click Here

In Toroa we have been doing this type of art called Hundertwasser Art and we had to make our own one.

Some of the techniques that I used when I was colouring in with pastels is I tried to keep the tip of the pastel flat when I was colouring so then you wouldn't see so many lines of where I coloured and it would be smooth.

The colours I used in my art were mostly analogous colours which means they are beside each other on the colour wheel for example reds, yellows and oranges because they are similar colours, But some were complimentary colours which is where they are across from each other on the colour wheel for example red and green or yellow and purple because they are completely different colours.

Some features that people should look out for in my art would be a hidden face, floating eyes, lollipop trees and onion domes. Here is an example of my art:

 Yanny or Laurel?

This audio has everyone wondering how you would hear the opposite thing to what they hear. I personally hear Yanny a lot more than Laurel so that means that I'm used to hearing high frequencies more than low frequencies. But The big question is: Do you hear Yanny or Laurel? Or do you hear both? And how does it work?

The secret is frequency, The acoustic information that makes us hear yanny is higher frequency than the acoustic information that makes us hear Laurel. You may start to hear the opposite of what you heard before if you were to change your headset or the speaker the sound comes out from, But some of it is the mechanics of your ears and what you're expecting to hear.

It’s also your brain, Not only is it filling in what it thinks the sound should be. What you hear is shaped in some way by your previous experiences. This is most obvious with music. So let's say you're in a noisy place, Your brain is filling in what it doesn’t quite hear,

You start to lose your hearing for high frequency ranges when you get a little older, So if you were to play the audio to your parents they will properly hear laurel more than yanny because yanny has a higher frequency than laurel and they start to lose their hearing for high frequencies. So if you were to remove all the low frequencies you will hear yanny but if you remove all the high frequencies you will hear laurel.
